A small picturesque, semi-rural seaside community in a village type setting. Lantzville has a friendly atmosphere where neighbours care about neighbours. Once settled as a coal mine community, Lantzville evolved into a little town known mainly for its gorgeous Georgia Strait beachfront cottages. Today it is many things, especially a self-sufficient town thriving on its unpretentious slice of tourism, and hosting many of the beaches that Nanaimo residents are so envious of. The district is almost completely residential, with some commercial buildings on the main street Lantzville Rd (formerly part of the Island Hwy). Lantzville is also known for the Lantzville Pub, Legion and Community Hall which is available to rent for events such as wedding receptions, banquets and staff parties.
