North NanaimoPeople use “North Nanaimo” to describe a relatively large part of the city. It’s a useful nomenclature because, compared to the other half of Nanaimo, the North End is homogeneous. Generally, development north of Northfield Rd and Departure Bay is no older than 30 years.

The North End and Dover Bay area’s sit high above the ocean and are well-kept areas of the city to settle down in terms of low property crime and young neighbourhoods. People who live in the North End but work downtown don’t have a long commute. It takes about 12 minutes to drive across town with no traffic, and about 20-25 during rush hour.

Fine dining, pubs, nice trails and beaches, upscale residential neighbourhoods, town homes and condos, commercial real estate, a wide variety of box stores and schools all share this area of town.

Dover BayThere is every kind of retail opportunity at nearby Woodgrove Mall and the many open malls in the area.  Dover Bay area offers two large plant nurseries and a Home Depot, Staples, and a Costco. Most Dover Bay properties are a five minute drive from the shopping centers.  Many homes in this area have amazing designs, efficient homes with spectacular ocean views, and safe neighbourhoods.  Neck Point Park is a lighter version of Pipers Lagoon to the south. Neck Point is the name of some igneous rock that is connected at lower tides to the rest of the park. Sea lions and sometimes even orcas pass by here, and from the tops of moderate cliffs you can look down and sea otters torpedoing in the shallows. A developed trail runs through most of the park, with boardwalks and lookouts. There are access points to the beaches throughout this residential area with access points on Fillinger Cr., Icarus Dr., and Bayshore Dr.
